State of Hunger in India- Situation is worse than you think

India, the country known for its rich and varied culture and tradition, is home to billions of people. The country has witnessed tremendous growth in its population over the past two decades. India has also been striving hard to become a developed nation from the developing nation. With a 4.5 times increase in GDP and 3 times increase in per capita consumption, India’s food grain production has also increased almost 2 times as compared to the previous years.

Despite phenomenal economic and industrial growth and India’s ability to produce sufficient food for its population, there is a large number of people who do not have access to food, especially women and children.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation report ‘The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, 2018,” nearly 195.9 million people in India do not get proper meals and are undernourished. This indicates that nearly 14.8% of the Indian population is undernourished. And it is the need of an hour to not just provide them with nutritious meals, but a proper lifestyle to improve their standard of living.

Other than children, there are around 51.4% of women between the age group of 15-49 years are anemic. A large number of children under the age of 5 years are stunted, while some are suffering from wasting.

In order to curb the problem of malnutrition among individuals, it is really important to educate people about the issues:

Teach the mother and children about nutrition

The problem with the people is that they do not even know that they are suffering through malnutrition. And to fight any issue it is really important that people must know about it. As only then, we can find a solution. Mother and children must be taught about the type and the right amount of nutrition. Also, it is really vital to make mother aware of the disease that exists and the reasons behind them.

There are instances when women in rural areas may not even know if their child is suffering from diarrhea. However, increasing their fluid intake and feeding them properly can help you treat the problem from the root.

Donate to NGO fundraising
