Nutritional Status Check
Malnutrition is a serious medical condition marked by a deficiency of energy, essential proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals in a diet. Over 10 million children aged less than five years (under-five children) die annually from preventable and treatable illnesses — almost all these deaths occur in developing countries. Malnutrition contributes to more than one-third of all deaths of under-five children.
The Mission Nutrition Campaign, organized by Nidhi Foundation started on 15th September where children of urban slum community of Kalyanpuri were checked by a team of doctors associated with the foundation. They initially started with basic check up of Body Mass Index where children were examined, further many other health related problems like bedwetting, uneven body growth, low understanding etc. were also noted but as suggested by doctors the basic lack of nutrition was the root cause of all the situation. After the checkup, almost 60% of children were found lacking in nutritional status.
Thus the start of a mission of providing them a basic nutrition starts from a glass of milk which each child listed as malnourished starts getting. Doctors also shared many health and hygiene tips with the children and explained about the nutritive value importance through interactive talks with them. Further, with the support of our international partner Vitamin Angels, foundation also delivered deworming and Vitamin A supplements to children. A close monitoring is being done every month for gauging the progress.
